Scholarships to students who engage with veterans and write an essay
The SAL promotes all age groups engaging with veterans more often.
We especially encourage high school students to talk with a veteran of their choice and write an essay of their experience. Submitted essays are read and a few students are awarded a cash scholarship for their efforts.
We hope their experience opens up a longer discussion with other veterans.
Donations to the Legion for big repairs and new equipment
From helping out with a new roof, to new locks, to purchasing new kitchen equipment – we chip in to help the Legion have functioning and up-to-date facilities
Donations to the school to buy flags
We try to help the school keep a presence of flags in all its rooms
Donations to support the outdoor ice rink in Hayfield
The outdoor ice rink is a popular place to go and keeps people active. We contribute to some of the necessary supplies to keep the rink operating.
Donations to the annual cancer telethon
A big event for the Legion, we purchase items for the cancer telethon to auction. The telethon often raises more than $X,000 a year which is donated to XYZ.
Donations to the Christmas Fund
We purchase Christmas gifts to donate to the XYZ drive.
